Introduction to Electronic Payment Systems and Transportation
Here's
an excerpt from the press release issued by ITS America describing the
document produced under contract by the staff at E-Squared Engineering

WASHINGTON,
May 2, 2001 - The EPS Primer, Introduction to Electronic Payment Systems and
Transportation, is now available. The 135 page document is a product of the ITS
America Electronic Payment Systems Task Force, chaired by Bob McQueen of
PBS&J, and was prepared by E-Squared Engineering.
The EPS Primer is an introductory document to Electronic
Payment Systems in general and to their uses in the transportation industry in
particular. The audience for this document includes transit, toll, parking, and
other transportation-related payment interests as well as the general EPS
industry (financial sector, vendors, consultants, et.al.).
The document features a number of real-world examples of
transportation EPS which takes the form of electronic fare collection,
electronic parking fee collection, and electronic toll collection. Lessons
learned and suggested approaches are presented as is the relationship of EPS to
the National ITS Architecture and industry standards.
